For students and teachers from Slovakia, their Erasmus+ study visit to Croatia was a perfect mix of academic exploration and cultural immersion. Hosted by Vladimir Prelog Nature Sciences School in Zagreb, the group gained exclusive access to some of Croatia’s most cutting-edge scientific and industrial sites, including Zagreb’s Waste Water Management Facility and the TAPI pharmaceutical production facility.
Beyond academics, we ensured the group experienced the essence of Croatia. Their weekends were filled with historical discoveries in Varaždin and Trakošćan, hands-on learning in Lepoglava, and even some classic local adventure – hiking the Medvednica Mt., indulging in the region’s best bean stew and strudel.
Meanwhile, across 1,800 kilometers of diverse Croatian landscapes, students from the University of Florida engaged in an even more unconventional journey. Instead of the usual tourist circuits, we introduced them to family-owned farms, hidden villages, and cultural traditions that most visitors never get to see. They found themselves kneading dough for Istrian fuži pasta, dancing to traditional songs, and even touring Croatia’s largest prison – an eye-opening experience that challenged their perceptions.
