Probably the most famous graphic symbol of Croatia are red and white squares. However, for our story, here at Culsperience we wanted to come up with something as genuine, but different. After finding some sketches of the dresses from the medieval Croatian royal court, the idea occurred – why not use the triangle pattern from the dresses?
A Pattern Woven Through Time
Another reason for doing so was the fact that Croatian heritage stems from the history of three regions that were once connected yet distinguished crown lands in the labyrinth of European history. The first one was Dalmatia, whose story, as well as that of Istria, goes all the way back to antiquity. The second is Croatia, which later gave its name to the whole of the nation. The third one is Slavonia, nowadays the easternmost Croatian region.
Transposed into traditions, sights, and experiences that these historically woven triangles offer us today, one might say that the blue ones treasure the story of a sunlit Mediterranean hilltop towns, olive groves, and a life shaped by the rhythm of the sea. The reds stand for central Croatia, the heart of modern Croatia, and the region whose heritage has been shaped by numerous battles, uprisings, and political shifts. The yellowish/orange ones symbolize the golden Croatian east – open plains, rich harvests, and folk customs that even today thrive in everyday life.
History Turned Into a Genuine Travel Experience
For travelers seeking immersive experiences, Croatia is not just a destination but a mosaic of traditions, flavors, and encounters. Whether sharing a meal in a Mediterranean konoba, exploring the crafts of Central Croatia, or stepping into a Slavonian celebration, every region invites participation, not just observation.
